Our Goal

Adam And JesseThe Adam Harlow Fellowship Fund (AHFF) pays for hockey registration fees for children within the KDMHA.

The Fund finances hockey registration fees for children that would not otherwise have the opportunity to play, or continue to play hockey.

Sponsorship is awarded on a first come, first served basis. All applicants must meet the requirements listed below in the “Application Process”.

Application Process

The application process for sponsorship is as follows:

  1. The family/guardian applying for sponsorship is unable to afford the registration fees in the year they are applying for;
  2. The parent or guardian seeking sponsorship for their child(ren) must contact any member of the Adam Harlow Fellowship Fund (AHFF) Board of Directors to begin the process;
  3. The child(ren) must write a letter explaining why they want to play hockey. This letter must be at least three paragraphs in length;
  4. There is a firm parent/guardian commitment to take the child(ren) to all practices and games;
  5. The AHFF expects a certain amount of volunteer support from the parent/guardian for fundraising events;
  6. An acknowledgement that the AHFF cannot sponsor families with outstanding debt to the KDMHA (the AHFF does not pay outstanding debt);
  7. The AHFF may sponsor a child for two (2) consecutive years at 100% of the registration fees, should the applicant fulfill the criteria;
  8. The AHFF may support a child for a third (3rd) year at 50% of the registration fees; and
  9. After the 3rd sponsorship, if the criteria is met, and if funding is available, the AHFF will decide on further support on a per applicant basis.

AdamSchoolPicsAdam Harlow died tragically on March 24, 2002 at the tender age of ten.

He began playing hockey in 1999 for the Kemptville Panthers and, like many children, suffered from low self esteem. In 2001, a very noticeable improvement came over him when he was chosen as his team's only goalie. This change was directly attributed to the camaraderie and team spirit provided by his team mates and the game of hockey, which became his greatest passion in life.

In 1999 both Adam and his best friend decided to join the Kemptville District Minor Hockey League to play on the same team. After registration, Adam called his buddy and was very discouraged to hear that his friend's family could not afford the high registration fees and therefore could not play. A very touching moment occurred when Adam innocently turned to his mother and asked if she could pay his friend's registration fees, too.

As a tribute, the "Adam Harlow Fellowship Fund" was created to help give Kemptville District children who would not otherwise be able to play hockey, the opportunity to learn and continue to enjoy the sport by financing their hockey registration fees.

Donations are welcome in supporting this very worthy cause.
